In the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community there are a lot of words that sometimes need further explanation in order to make things clearer. Here are a few of them:
Bisexual
A person that is emotionally and/or physically attratected of persons of both men and women. Describes a persons sexual orientation.
Drag King
A person who has a gender identity as a woman and mainly interested in playing with gender roles and expression in a provocative way on stages or night clubs. Often but not always a lesbian or bisexual woman.
Drag Queen
A person who has a gender identity as a man and mainly interested in playing with gender roles and expression in a provocative way on stages or night clubs. Often but not always a gay or bisexual man.
Heterosexual
A person that is emotionally and/or physically attratected of persons of the opposite sex. Describes a persons sexual orientation.
Homosexual
A person that is emotionally and/or physically attratected of persons of the same sex. Describes a persons sexual orientation.
Intersex(ual)
“Intersex” is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male. For example, a person might be born appearing to be female on the outside, but having mostly male-typical anatomy on the inside.
Transgender
Usually a common overarching term that includes transvestites, transsexuals, intersexuals and drag queens/kings.
Transsexual
A condition where a person strongly feels a belonging to the opposite biological sex sometimes described as being trapped in a wrong body from birth. Want to correct their body into the desired sex and want to “change sex” in a social, medical and legal sense. Being transsexual is not a sexual orientation because transsexuals can be bisexual, heterosexual or homosexual just as anyone else.
Transvestite
A person who feel a strong desire to sometimes wear clothes and adopt the behaviour of the opposite sex. Describe how that person want to relate to his or her gender expression. Transvestites can be bisexual, heterosexual or homosexual just as anybody else.
